Make your Voice Heard

School Boards are the most efficient level of government in transforming tax dollars into direct service to its clients. The fact that students from 4-years-old to adults of all ages are served with the least overhead speaks volumes.

With the province divided into regions served by their individual school boards, the differing needs of each region can be addressed, avoiding standardized, bureaucratic solutions. The school board is sufficiently further divided into wards such that the commissioners know the schools, the staff, the parents and can respond directly to their electors, rather than making decisions based solely on statistics and reports.

The English School Boards are the only public organizations through which anglophones have direct input in decisions which affect their lives. The Quebec English School Board Association (QESBA), the umbrella organization of the nine English school boards, is highly respected in Quebec City and meets with the Ministry and the Minister of Education on the same basis as the FCSQ (which groups the 60 French boards). In the last round of union negotiations, QESBA demanded and won for the first time the right to develop its own collective agreements with its employees. Thus, the Anglophone community had a tool which could respond to its own highly individual needs,

English School Board elections are the only opportunity for the Anglophone community to make its collective voice heard. It is vital for that voice to be strong and clear.

All electors who wish to be enrolled on the English permanent list can call 1-888-353-2846 to check whether they are on the list. If need be, they must fill out and return a Voter Transfer Form no later than October 16th, 2007. The Lester B. Pearson School Board schools and centers, and the website http://www2.lbpsb.qc.ca/eng/elections/index.asp have all the necessary information. Only parents with children only enrolled in French public schools must be on the French list. All others electors may opt for the English list.

The Advance poll will be held Sunday October 28, 2007 from 12 noon to 8:00 p.m.
Voting Day is Sunday November 4, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
